A Spiritual Timeout

This is not the topic I expected to write about today, and yet, it is the topic that apparently needs addressing. So, here we are.
“A Spiritual Timeout” is an original blog post by Ellen M. Gregg, published on 27 May 2025 on ellenmgregg.com. #spirituality #rest #wellbeing #energywork
Timeout from what?
The timeout could be from whatever modality you practice, from your strongest psychic abilities, from all of it. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine all that’s readily available to you being muted or put away without your permission, or because you asked for it, and your guides took your word for it?
Perhaps it has happened to you already, or it’s happening right now.
Speaking from my own experience, the spiritual timeout I walked through was complete, and it lasted for just over three decades. The abilities I was familiar with, even though they scared and overwhelmed me, were suddenly gone. In their wake was some relief, and some emptiness.
Why a timeout?
It could be that the spiritual timeout is the result of being scared and overwhelmed, as in my case. It could be because humaning took precedence, and so a retroactive (or repeat) spiritual amnesia took hold. It could be because the human in question is unable to commit to themselves in that way.
It could be because “there are choices to be made,” I hear, that require the sort of focus we might not find with spirit activity knocking on our mind’s eye.
No matter the cause, the result is not meant to be a form of punishment. Instead, it’s meant to be more of a safeguard for the human’s energy, health, peace of mind, and sense of security. That means that if it happens without our request, it’s happening for us, nonetheless.
Exiting a spiritual timeout
Having spiritual abilities restored can be a relief if we’ve been missing them, and a blessing for us and those we may serve. It can come with misgivings, as it may be that we don’t feel ready for their return from our human perspective. It can also be unsettling, as they may return with additional abilities that far exceed our understanding.
Whatever way we exit a spiritual timeout, we’ll want to be as gracious with ourselves as possible. We’ll also want to ensure that we prioritize our wellness by being properly nourished and having someone trustworthy to talk to about our experiences.
And when we feel able to, we’ll want to celebrate ourselves and the choices and decisions and sacred contracts that brought us here and allowed us to experience the wonderment of it all, complete with its ups and downs, twists and turns, and life-altering circumstances.
Have you experienced a spiritual timeout?
I’d love to hear about your experience, if you wish to share in the comment section below.
