Essential Oils for Chakras

Chakras (chalk-ras) are our energy body's energetic power centers.

The seven main chakras - those that coordinate with areas of our physical body - are aligned with locations from the perineum (root) to the top of the head (crown).

When the chakras function well, there is a deeper sense of balance in all areas of life. In addition, the body-mind-spirit connection is optimally supported.

While they won't do it all on their own, essential oils can support our chakras to function better.

That's because vibration meets and mingles with vibration. That is, the energetic vibrations of the essential oils meet, and then mingle with, the energetic vibrations of the chakras, supporting better function.

➺If you haven't used essential oils to support your chakra system's function now is as good a time as any to start.

➺If you haven't worked with chakras at all, consider this post a mini primer, and an invitation.

Crown

Related to the spirit realms, the crown chakra is located at the crown of the head and resonates with the color violet. Think: iris (the flower) or amethyst violet. It's powerful and yet gentle, too; inviting.

Two essential oils that can support this chakra are: Rose and Geranium

Third Eye

Related to knowing, which is received (as opposed to knowledge, which is learned), the third-eye chakra is located at the center point located just above the eyebrows and resonates with the color indigo. Think: dark-wash jeans or midnight-sky blue. It's deep and vast and a little mysterious.

Two essential oils that can support this chakra are: Frankincense and Hyssop

Throat

Related to communication (and not limited to verbal), the throat chakra is located at the base of the neck, just above the clavicle, and resonates with the color blue. Think: summer-sky or Paul Newman's-eyes blue. It's clear and almost piercing in tone.

Two essential oils that can support this chakra are: Petitgrain and Wintergreen

Heart

Related to love, both shared and received, the heart chakra aligns with the heart and sits in the middle of the chest. It resonates with the color green. Think: shamrock or spring-leaves green. It could be described as a happy green, it's so full of life.

The heart chakra also resonates with the color pink. Think: pink tourmaline or bubble-gum pink. It could be described as happy, too.

Two essential oils that can support this chakra are: Melissa and Rose

Solar Plexus

Related to personal power, and, also, the seat of intuition, the solar [plexus] chakra is located midway between chest and belly button and resonates with the color yellow. Think: golden-corn or midday-sun yellow. It's almost a fierce yellow.

Two essential oils that can support this chakra are: Juniper and Xiang Mao

Sacral

Related to creativity, passion, and relationships, the sacral chakra aligns with or near your belly button and resonates with the color orange. Think: perfectly-ripe or summer-sunset orange. It's an intense orange.

Two essential oils that can support this chakra are: Oregano and Rosemary

Root

Related to security, grounding, and ancestry (your roots), the root chakra is located at the perineum and resonates with the color red. Think: ruby-slipper or Red Delicious red. It's a deep and yet vibrant red.

Two essential oils that can support this chakra are: Frankincense and Tarragon

"Bonus" Chakras

Palms

Related to healing, both shared and received, the palm chakras - which are located at the centers of the palms and are used solely to channel energy - resonate with the color blue, as well. However, think cobalt or Persian blue.

Two essential oils that can support these chakras are: Fennel and Lemongrass

Putting Them to Use

I invite you to exercise your intuition in determining:

  1. Which of your chakras need support, and

  2. Which of the two oils suggested in conjunction with those chakras will be best for you, or

  3. If there's another essential oil that would be better for you, personally.

This will be great practice for you, and helpful, too.
