Portals of the Human Life

22 May 2025

In my line of work, portals are energetic doorways used by energies of various types to move from one location to another. These portals can be healthy or unhealthy. As a practitioner of energy and intuition, it’s essential that I can discern the difference and proceed accordingly.

What, then, are portals of the human life? You might be surprised… or not. What I will say, in the spirit of laying a foundation for this post, is that it was inspired by

  1. Two clients who are walking each other arm-in-arm through an important human-life portal, and

  2. My own impending major human-life portal this year.

Human Portals

Our human lives are marked by portals unique to the human experience. Consider:

  • the birth portal

  • the birthday portals

  • the graduation portals

  • the relationship portals

  • the anniversary portals

  • the death portal

While we might not think of these everyday human events as portals, that’s what they are. They usher us from one way of being to another. Sometimes the shift is so subtle that it goes almost unnoticed. Other times, it’s so extreme that it leaves us gasping for air, hoping we’ll survive it.

Portals that we might not think of as such could include getting our period, having our first mammogram, entering perimenopause, and entering menopause. I acknowledge that I’m speaking of portals specific to women, and that’s because I am one. (No offense, men.)

Some of the most meaningful portals may fall around important birthdays. Those birthdays might be:

  • our 13th (teenage years)

  • our 16th (driver’s permit)

  • our 18th (legal adult; we can vote, buy lottery tickets, etc.)

  • our 21st (we can buy and drink alcohol legally)

  • our 50th (halfway there; with good health, we may have another 50 to go)

  • our 75th (three-quarters of a century is a pretty big deal)

  • our 100th (a centenarian? why not?)

Celebrating ourselves

In an ideal world, perhaps we would celebrate all of these portals and more. In an ideal life, perhaps we would be inclined to honor every anniversary of our birth as a special occasion. Of course, that would mean acknowledging that we are special. (You are special. We are special.)

Our human world isn’t all that ideal, however, and many people don’t have an ideal life that inspires the sort of celebrating written of here. Even so, there are portals that it seems almost vital that we mark.

It could be as simple as acknowledging the day, the date, the occasion, or the shift for ourselves. All it would take is a nod to ourselves, or a hand to our heart center, or a murmured “yes” to mark its significance. And if we want more than that, then we can do what’s within our means or ask for what we want from those we trust.

How do you feel about this?

Do you honor your human-life portals? If it’s something you hadn’t considered before, do you feel it might support you?

Thanks for reading.
