Frugal Lifestyle
This is a recovered post from a botched website transfer in 2014. It was originally written and published on 05/03/2013.
It used to be that when I heard or read the word "frugal," Ebenezer Scrooge came to mind. I equated frugality with being miserly. I've learned, over the years, that they're completely different.I'm a frugal person.I pay close attention to prices in the grocery store, and don't mind spending extra time there to be certain I'm getting the best value for my money.I use coupons, whenever possible, and I pay attention to sales flyers.I think twice before I agree to drive somewhere in my gas-guzzling car. Always in consideration is what else can be accomplished on the way, or on the way back, to make it a worthwhile usage of that expensive energy drain.Almost all the light bulbs where I live are CFLs, and will eventually be LEDs.I have no problem purchasing and wearing second-hand clothing and shoes, as long as they're in good condition. In fact, one of my missions, as my body continues to diminish in size, is not to buy anything new except underwear.I get a charge out of repurposing items - not just because it can be a money-saver; because it also fires up my creativity in a big way.I appreciate the frugality my parents exhibit, although I admit they're less so than they could be. Perhaps it's that they're less so than they used to be. I think that's it.Being frugal aligns beautifully with my minimalist lifestyle. It helps to keep me from hopscotching from new technology to newer technology, even though I'm a bit of a nerd, that way.I wouldn't make a good iPad/iPhone/iPod disciple. ;-)Being frugal has a peaceful simplicity to it that aligns beautifully with my Reiki life, too. It fits the centered, quiet balance of the practice.Beyond necessity, frugal living suits me more and more, as time goes on.Are you frugal? If yes, how so?
