Ellen:

Hello, Maura. Welcome to the Everyday Intuitive Podcast.

Maura:

Hi, Ellen. Thank you so much for having me on the podcast. I'm honored.

Ellen:

Oh, I'm honored that you were willing to do this. I'm just so appreciative, truly. I know it can be… It's different to having a conversation with someone that we know is going to be listened to by others.

Maura:

True.

Ellen:

Yeah, it's just an interesting dynamic to be aware of, right?

Maura:

Absolutely.

Ellen:

Yeah, but anyway… So Maura, one thing that this being a podcast about intuition, I always find it fascinating how people came into their intuition - like when they first became aware of it, and yet also when they truly began embracing it, because those can be two very different points.

Maura:

Absolutely. They are two different points for me, and it's ongoing. I was actually thinking today, like more and more is opening and it's like, wow, like I guess I just get as much as I'm supposed to get. I would say 10 years ago was when I probably always had it, but damped it down, like I'm sure many of us have.

But about 10 years ago,I really started being called to card decks - oracle cards, tarot cards, angel cards - and pendulums. Those were my two things that I was called to in the beginning. And I started collecting them and I would just every day get up and look at them and be like, which one is calling to me? And I would just, at that time, just shuffle the deck, lay it out on the floor and pick a card. Didn't think about it, just did it and read it and okay.

And over the years of doing that, I became aware that I was actually my energy. I was the intuition energy, interchangeable sometimes I use them, but I would feel drawn, like as if I couldn't control where my hand was going or my vision was going and that I had, that was the card for me. And I was able to like pick the card up and actually feel and know that that was the card. I would know if it should be reversed or upright. And it just sort of took over and I was like, ooh, this is different.

And I remember that shift profoundly as I'm no longer just blindly doing this. I'm being directed somehow, my intuition, my higher self guides, whatever, to work hard. And then I was able to do that for other people as well by calling in their teams to like help me guide. So that was probably the beginning of me just practicing every single day for years. And then all of a sudden I was able, I was aware.

And then the next profound moment would happen during COVID. Um, I was a realtor in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and I was working with an individual who I didn't like, for no better word. And I was bothered by that. I was bothered that I didn't like him.

And I remember walking to the house to show it one day, and I asked God, spirit, whatever, to remove judgment from me because I was bothered that I was judging so much. And I walked into the home and I sat down and all of a sudden, bam, like the house was talking to me. Like the water spirit in the house was talking to me. And it was saying, “Save me, clean me.” That's the words I heard in my head.

Ellen:

Oh my gosh.

Maura:

And I profoundly shifted how I felt about him. That's how it just changed. I'm like, oh, I'm not working. It's not him. It's the house I'm here to help. And I don't have to be bothered by this person. I'm here to help the house. So I promptly started cleaning like, I'm a bat out of hell, basically. And I sold the house that day.

And I'll never forget, in Massachusetts, you do a final water reading. And it's a series of numbers. And it's quite long. It's not like one, two, three. It's like seven or eight numbers. And I opened up the water meter. And it was the same number. It was twos all the way across. And I was like, whoa. And so I just, that was the shift. And after that, things would just start opening more and more. And they continued to open more and more.

Um, but that was really when I, in 2020, where I really was like, started thinking about things differently and had a profound shift that I was maybe meant to do something else and, you know, and then I would start to study other things and pursue other avenues.

Ellen:

Wow. Okay. That is so, so cool. So when you say the house spoke to you and you heard what it said, was it that you were hearing it as far as clairaudience?

Maura:

I think I was clairaudience or clairsentient. I don't know. But I know that I text my friend who was a medium and said, “Do houses talk?” Right there and then.

And she said, “Yes, they do. Say thank you and listen.” And she said, “It's probably a spirit in the house or whatever.” But she's like, “You're picking up on an entity or a spirit or something in the home that is trying to tell you a message.”

Ellen:

Wow. That's amazing. And so again, just for clarification's sake, so that people have an understanding of the difference between clairaudience and clairsentience.

So clairaudience being clear hearing, clairsentience being clear feeling. And those feelings can be attributed to either emotions or actual, like, tangible sensations. Was it a combination? And I don't mean to, I'm sorry, this is like really making you like…

Maura:

No, go for it.

Ellen:

Yeah, I'm just so curious about the potential for a combination of the two perhaps.

Maura:

I think it was a combination of the two because I always, I actually still, Ellen, honestly, feel like it's a combination of the two for me still.

Ellen:

Okay, yeah.

Maura:

I feel like sometimes I'm really am hearing and then sometimes I feel like I just know and I'm hearing. So if that makes any sense.

Ellen:

Yeah, totally. Yeah, that totally makes sense. Yeah, especially, I mean, it's, you know, intuition is the sum of its parts, right? Yeah. So it's... unlikely to be just one single thing, even though we might notice one thing more than other things. So I really appreciate that.

So then, I mean, what happened next? Because as far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as coincidence. Nothing is truly random. So the fact that that house spoke to you, I mean, what happened next?

Maura:

After that, I became more aware. It was COVID, so I had, I was, you know, I was pretty busy realtor. And I saw this, for no other word, like all these people that I had sold homes to in the last, and I will say, it was predominantly women. Some were a couple men, but I sold houses to them in the last two to three years. And once COVID hit, I was receiving emails and calls and texts constantly:

“I don't like my house.”

“I don't like my condo.”

“I don't like my apartment.”

And I was like, hmm, this is interesting. And at the time, I just was getting curious. Why are they all not liking it now? Like they loved it a year or two ago or three ago. And why are they like suddenly like they were spending all the time in it before it may have been perfectly fine to, you know, come home at night at 6 o'clock, get up at 6 in the morning, leave for work, spend a few hours there Saturday and Sunday and go back.

But now they were working in their home and they were staying in their home, some people 24-7, as the world was shut down. And they couldn't put their- They couldn't say it energetically didn't fit them. But they were saying, I don't know what it is, I just don't like it. And so I started to really pick up on that trend of what is this? And I was burning out of real estate too. And I was trying to listen to my own messages:

“Where am I supposed to go?”

“What am I supposed to do?”

“I'm very successful, but even with this success, I don't feel it's not lighting me up anymore.”

The real estate itself lit me up, but the job of it was draining my energy and I couldn't come up for air. I would have a team. I would have an assistant. I would have marketing people. And I still was being depleted.

So I started paying attention to all these people that I was then again moving again. And still I wasn't really pinpointing this yet, what it was. And then one day, I don't know where I was, but I was banged into Feng Shui. Either I read it or I saw it. And I started paying attention a little bit about the energy of a home. Energy. Okay. I know about energy, but like…

And then I started going, “Well, can where people live really affect them? What's going on?” And I would notice that when I sold homes, like say for hoarders or just overwhelmed people, the personality in the house kind of lined up. Like the hoarders or the very overwhelmed moms or something where the houses were just full of clutter and chaos. They were kind of either depressed or full of clutter or chaos in their own mental life.

I was starting to really make that connection. I started looking at different forms of Feng Shui and the only one that really truly resonated with me was Holistic Feng Shui because it was more about definitely setting the intentions that people wanted to bring into their lives, but also working with the elements and working with nature. And things that plants and things that people, you know, wouldn't have to spend a lot of money. They wouldn't be painting their house red if they didn't like red.

I just didn't want, you know, I wanted people to embrace it and educate them about. We spend a lot of time in our physical body working on it through yoga or meditation or intuition or astrology and all these things we do, coaching, therapy. But do we look at our outside space?

And since COVID, I think so many of us spend so much more time in our homes. Our homes energetically supporting us to the best of our ability. And that's where I went with it. That's the direction I chose because I felt like spirit had led me.

Why would I have 10 years of real estate experience? Why did I do all this? And I love this. Where can I go with this that will use my background of real estate and then my love of everything metaphysical and intuition and energy.

And then I would eventually go and study biogeometry too, which to me is another, I layer that on top of Feng Shui. And that's about clearing EMFs and earth radiation and everything to harmonize detrimental energy, but not just transmute it, but actually transmute it or to change it into beneficial energy. And my mind's been blown by that as well.

So that's where my intuition took me. And I would walk away from real estate in 2023. I would move out of the state of Massachusetts where I lived for over 50 years. And I would really just follow my intuition.

And I know that I did the right thing because whenever I try to go back to real estate, I'm blocked. Let's not try, but if somebody reaches out, I don't. My energy does not go there. I can't go back. I have to go forward.

Ellen:

Wow. Wow. Isn't that just… Okay. I mean, first of all, cool story. Just such a cool story. And the fact that what you were doing as a real estate agent actually served you in transitioning into feng shui. I mean, it's wild. I mean...

Maura:

I know. I really thought about it, Ellen, and just kept saying, “Real estate came out of the blue, and I followed that.” You know what I mean? One day I woke up and I said, “I'm going to become a realtor,” and I did it. And I was just called to it. So I know to follow, I always call it the breadcrumbs. When I see breadcrumbs, I just trust.

Ellen:

Wow. That is just so amazing. So then as you leaned further into feng shui and you said- I want to be clear about the term that you used. Is it biogeometrics? Is that what you said?

Maura:

Biogeometry. Just like math. Geometry. Biogeometry.

Ellen:

Biogeometry. Okay. And I know you used the acronym EMF, which is electromagnetic frequency. Correct?

Maura:

Correct.

Ellen:

Okay. So as you were leaning further into that, did you start noticing other changes happening inside of you, around you?

Maura:

Yes, yes. I always say, I could feel things, but I didn't know. And one of the most confirming things was we had bought a house in North Carolina in the pandemic in 2021. We didn't live there. We just bought it and we were going to retire there eventually, which I think the plan was 2025. So clearly I set up my timeline because I just woke up one day and said, nope, we're going.

So yeah. My husband had been down here in 2022. Yeah, 2022, my husband was down here for three months. And during that time, he was planning to get a big shed. And he came home to Massachusetts afterwards and he mapped out where the shed was going to go.

And I went on Google Earth and I looked and I'm like, “It can't go there.”

And he's like, “Why?”

I'm like, “I don't know, but I know I feel something under the earth or the land.” And this is how biogeometry came into math, because I'm like, “I don't know why I know this, but I know this.”

And he's like, “Well, where can we put it?”

And I said, “That I don't know either.” I said, “I think I physically need to be there to figure that out but I can tell you that whenever I look to where you want the shed, where you put on this little map, and I'm looking at Google, my head, just like the Oracle cards, my energy goes way away from it. It takes me to way away from that space. And I just know that that... It's not where it's supposed to be.”

Maura:

So again, I follow breadcrumbs and I was in a conversation with somebody probably last fall, Yurka last fall, and she mentioned biogeometry. I don't know why, but I was fascinated by that.

I'm like, “What is that?”

And she's like, “Well, it's earth and land and transmuting earth radiation and EMFs in the home and in the land. And it also goes on and on. It goes with the physical body, but we'll stick to homes on this conversation. And it connects to the divine.”

And I'm like, “Fascinating.”

So I looked it up, and sure enough, there was a class. I signed up. It was online and I was, like, drawn in. And I have, like, I always say the attention span of a snit. And I was like, I couldn't stop watching these videos. I mean, it was 20 hours of videos a week. I was like, oh. And I still did it. I was like, I'm fascinated by this.

So biogeometry has a lot of pendulums. They're not dousing pendulums at all. They're from Egypt. They are based on vibrations and colors. And so I now had these pendulums and I could measure detrimental energy.

So I went out on the yard when I was down here and I'm like, sure enough, where I wanted to put this. And I'd already picked up. Sorry, when I came down here, I told him he could have the sheds at this place. I had no way of measuring. I just said, this feels good.

So I went over to the area that originally he wanted it, and I could measure, and it measured counterclockwise, so it was measuring negatives, that it was not a good place. And then I went over to where we put the shed, and it was fine.

My husband, who is supportive, but not always, you know, how do you know? And okay, now the pendulum says you were correct, but what is the reason? So my husband was actually the person that figured it out.

Oh, because also, back up a little, not only did we have the shed, when I moved into the house, I said, “Something's wrong with the bathroom, the half bath on our first floor.”

And he's like, “What do you mean?”

I'm like, “I don't know.”

Again, I'm feeling my energy's drawn there that something's wrong with it. Sure enough, I measured that. That energy was detrimental in that bathroom.

And my husband's like, “But why? I need to know why.”

And I'm like, and I am pragmatist too, so it is important to me to know why, but I was just excited that it was confirming what I was feeling.

Ellen:

Yeah.

Maura:

And so he looked over and he said, “That's it.”

So our house has underground electrical. So what I was feeling was the electrical current running under the land, through the house, through our half bath, into our electrical panel. That was what I was sensing under the land.

And actually in biogeometry, they make earth scepters. So I was able to locate where that was and put an earth scepter in the land. And now I've transmuted that whole underground current into beneficial energy that connects to divine source.

Ellen:

How cool. Wow. And so that's what was happening with the area that he originally wanted to put the shed as well? That was the underground electrical?

Maura:

Yeah. So that's what I was feeling from maps. So looking at Google Maps, I could feel that underneath the earth.

Ellen:

That is the coolest thing. And the thing is, I want to say to you, because I was like, okay, I have to see, you know, knowing that you don't own that land and knowing that I wasn't going to be interfering with anybody, I wanted to feel what you felt. Like how does it feel from my perspective?

And it was the coolest thing because it's like I put my hand out. So it was almost like it was hovering like right above the ground in the area where he wanted to shed. And what I noticed, first of all, it felt very cold, but also super hard. Like the energy felt like I can only call it unreceptive. Just unreceptive. And then moving my hand to the right, it got softer and softer and warmer and warmer.

And I was like, oh, that is super cool. I've felt that like with working with people with healing energy, like if there's something going on in the body, I'll get that kind of resistance. But not with the land before in that specific way. That's super cool. Okay, thank you. Wow, that's so neat.

Maura:

It's very cool. And you can actually do power spots too, which is very cool. I can detect power spots on people's land if they have them.

Ellen M Gregg:

So power spots like vortexes and things like that?

Maura:

Yeah, mini ones. Obviously, it's not like the pyramids. Yeah, yeah. Most people have little, not most, but depending where the land is, lots of land has little mini power spots that you can amplify.

Ellen:

Oh, that's so cool. I'm just checking in with something really quickly here. Yeah, that's so funny because I hadn't checked in with the land that I'm living on now really all that much. I mean, I cleared it, but I'm like, oh, okay, there are several, as you call them, power spots on this land. I'm not surprised actually.

Maura:

There you go. And if you put 16 stones around them, it amplifies it even more.

Ellen:

That's really interesting. I'm not sure if I actually want to do that.

Maura:

You might not want to. And you might, you especially may not want to because you're sensitive. So you'll be like, whoa, blown out of the house. I did it around my bird's bath and all of a sudden I have all these birds coming. So it's cute. So you can play with it. No, probably not for you, but you can do it like for people who have, you know, um, I have a friend who is in town that we found three on her property and she's working with them. So it's pretty cool.

Ellen:

Oh, that's really awesome. That's so awesome.

And so then as far as how you are now working with energy, whether it's with cards, with its feng shui and biogeometry and… What are the shifts you've noticed that you've moved through? When you consider how things are for you now and how things were for you when you first began this particular journey, what do you notice that's changed for you?

Maura:

I'm no longer living in low-level anxiety. I would say that by removing myself from a job that I loved but drained my energy, that I no longer live in that. So I feel that when I talk about this feng shui or biogeometry or clearing energy in homes, I light up just like I did with real estate, except that I don't have the drain on me.

And I'm fascinated by talking to other people about, you know, I just met today with, I ran into a woman who's all into all of those things metaphysical and it lights me up and my energy. So I'm still lit up like I was in real estate, but without the energetic drain on myself.

it's also shifted my awareness that we have choices. Like we have choices. We can leave, you know, and things. I think that for me, for a long time, I stayed in a place, I stayed in jobs. That I knew were depleting me, but I didn't give myself permission. And when I finally gave my permission, my energy is lighter, I feel.

I'm very appreciative when things line up. I'm much more aware that now that I'm living in a lighter, my energy is lighter. I see things brighter. The world looks brighter. My senses are heightened. It's been such a profound experience.

I just feel very strongly that... Our homes should feel beautiful and that beauty is defined by everybody differently. But that they should feel like I do, like have a lightness when they're in their home.

I love my home now. Before I had a nice house, but I really didn't pay attention to wanting it to the energy in it. I just kind of used it as a home base that I liked. And when I went about this intentionally, like the home that I live in now, I very intentionally was like set it up.

There's people that will come here and say, I love how your home feels. Like, yes. I think when our environments, now that we work from home, most of us or a lot of us, when we can feel really good in that space and the energy flows beautifully through the space and it's not stuck on clutter or dirt or just old things that don't have a meaning. You just energetically will start to feel better and things will start to flow better. And I just I want to be able to help people use their home as a great uplift of uplift and energy.

Ellen:

Oh, gosh, that's so good. Do you do you notice if there are certain things that show up more frequently than others when you're working with people's houses? Like, I don't mean something, well, I guess it could be considered thematic, but more so like whether it's placement of furniture or clutter or just… Are there common things that people do that actually adversely impact the energy of their homes?

Maura:

Well, I'll just use this example because this is one of the examples I use a lot when I do a workshop or something, is that the relationship gua, on the back wall map is everyone's far right corner of their house. And it doesn't have to be your bedroom or whatever. It's your relationship wall. It could be your dining room.

And I've worked with a couple of people who have been looking to bring partners into their lives. And I see this theme more often than not. I always start with the obvious (Well, to me, it's obvious.): “Do you have anything from an ex-lover, partner, spouse, whatever in your home?”

And I will say that most times they'll say yes. They still have belongings. They still have pictures. They might have pictures under their bed. And my first advice, and always will be, is that energy no longer serves you unless it's an item that was gifted to you that you love and you feel is beautiful.

But most of the time, if you've got somebody's sweater and their books and all this other stuff that belongs to them, I always advise them to pack it. If you believe it belongs back with them, pack it up, send them back to them. You don't even have to write a note. They know where it came from. Or donate it if you feel okay with that. But you don't want that energy.

So a lot of times when people say, I want to bring a partner into my life, I might ask them if they have past partners' belongings. They usually do. Then I would say the next step is that when I look at their space, say they have four stools at an island. I can tell you that probably if they're having a problem that there's only probably a place for one person to really sit at a table or at a stool. That they've actually made everything very singular in their life.

The artwork might be singular. They might have one nightstand next to their bed, not two. Pairs. They don't have things in pairs. They'll have odd numbers or they'll have… They're not inviting or making space for anyone. That's what I see a lot of times is that they really don't have space. So that's one thing I say.

Another time is I have people that live with family, but they have not a great family dynamic. So I had a consult with somebody that she kept saying we had water issues and water is emotions. So there was like, cConstant water problems in the house. Things were breaking. Septic systems were backing up. Washing machines were overflowing. Sink drains were clogging.

Ellen:

Oh, my gosh.

Maura:

And everything on the lower level. And I'm like, well, who lives in the lower level? Like, what is the lower level used for? And she's like, that's my mother lives down there. It's an in-law apartment. And she's like, but we don't speak. And I'm like-

Ellen:

Oh, for heaven's sake.

Maura:

And I'm like, there's the emotions. There's the water. Water, water everywhere is like emotions. Like, it was just. And so I'm like, and I actually was trying to energetically go, and this woman's a yogi and she can work with her energy too. And it was so funny because I said, I'm trying to get energetically downstairs and I can't. She's like, oh, I have it blocked off energetically.

I'm like, I can't get down there. I said, I felt like it was a block. I'm like, I can't get to the bottom of your house. And she's like, oh, you can't because I don't. So recently they had a major flood. And because I kept saying that, well, Feng Shui isn't going to work because I really believe like, well, work a little, but you really need to work on the relationship.

So the whole apartment recently just flooded and her mother had to move out. And the shift now is profound. And so she and her and her mother are actually now working together to Feng Shui, the lower level, and are working together on the relationship. So it's very, I believe your home tells a story. And if you're having problems, there probably is a story. Um, so yes, I believe that those are like examples of how things fall out, come in your house.

Another thing that I always say is interesting is this is biogeometry and a bench way thing, but corners, a corner of a room, um, anything you put in a corner, the energy from there amplified. So a lot of times I'll go in, I'll see kitty litter in a corner, dog food in a corner, garbage cans, plungers. You know, dirty laundry. A lot of people throw all the dirty laundry in a chair that's in the corner.

So I always say you don't want to amplify that energy out into your space. I see that a lot. I'm like, so shift your garbage cans, put them in the closet, you know, make sure your laundry is not in the corner because you're just radiating out that. You don't want that. It's icky. You don't want that. You don't want dirt. You don't want to radiate kitty litter. So that's another thing I see. So that radiates out. And that's both biogeometry and feng shui, I believe that.

Ellen:

Wow, that is, oh, this is just so interesting. I'm like, there's so much here. Everyone's going to go home and be like, oh, no, what's in our corner? Oh, it's so good, though, because it really encourages us to look, to pay attention, right? And the thing is, I mean, what you said about having belongings from an ex, that was one thing before I moved back at the end of May.

Toward the beginning of May, I emptied out a storage unit that I had stored things in for, oh my gosh, like 12 years, 11 years. And there were a number of things in there that were an exes. And the thing is, some things are gifts. In fact, I would say actually most things were gifts. However, what was really interesting is I had such a strong reaction. I can't even call it a response, a reaction to certain things, like things that I had kept because I really loved 11 years previously. It was like, I almost couldn't touch them.

Maura:

Interesting. I love that.

Ellen:

I was like, you're not staying anymore. It's like, I mean, and so it ended up that of all the things I had, I think I ended up keeping two, two things. And the- But all the rest had to go because truly it was like wild, wild, wild.

Maura:

Right, because you've forgotten about them. But when you touch them or you look at them, you're sensitive and intuitive enough to be like, oh, no, this no longer serves me. But a lot of people struggle with that. Like, oh, you know, it was a time in my life. And I'm like, I have, you know, ex-husband. I have one bracelet, one bracelet from 12 years of marriage that I kept because that was the only thing.

And actually, recently, when my mother recently passed away, I had to go through photos. There were so many of my ex-husband. And I said, “Oh my goodness.” And I have two boys. So I think my justification for so long was, well, the boys, the boys. And now I'm like, well, the boys are men. So I have it on my list of things to do to go through those pictures and divvy them up and mail them to my kids because it's their dad. But that energy no longer serves me. It doesn't serve me.

Ellen:

Yeah. Wow. So for me, as I said, it was a reaction. It was so clear I couldn't keep those things. The thing is, I had similar responses. They weren't nearly as strong to my own possessions. When all was done, I probably kept about 5% of what was in that storage unit. Isn't that amazing?

Maura:

It is amazing. It's really amazing.

Ellen:

And yes, I mean, I went through a period where I would absolutely call myself a minimalist. I'm not quite so much that way now, although I can't really abide by collections per se. Like the things I have have great meaning to me.

Maura:

That's important.

Ellen:

And that's it. That's it. You know, I don't keep things to keep things. So for those who do, though, for those who identify themselves through belongings, whether it's theirs or someone else's, how might you support someone to begin disentangling themselves from those things?

Maura:

It's a good question, and it's funny, I would say that my house, looked really good. Like if you came in, but don't open a closet or anything. And when I was taking feng shui, I would learn that when you stuff stuff in closets and drawers, that that's emotions that you're not dealing with.

And so we are consumer society. We know that. And people bring along a lot of stuff. They either consume it, they inherit it. And when you have too much, first of all, the energy isn't going to move and you're going to feel literally stuck.

So somebody who has a lot of clutter, I'm probably- If we had a conversation and we were all honest, the conversation with honesty, they would be stuck in some area of their life. And so. I would encourage them on what is that area? Where are you really stuck?

I could be stuck in a lot of areas. If they have a lot of clutter or were borderline on hoarding, we could be stuck in a lot of areas. But what would be the most important area that they're stuck? And then we would work on getting rid of that kind of stuff.

So if they were romantically stuck, well, let's start looking at like, okay, you've got 28 pillows in this bedroom. We only probably need four. Like, and what four do we really need? And then going through the book, because it could be hard for people.

I mean, I sold houses too prior to this and we have a lot of people with a lot of things. And, you know, it really is getting in touch with your feelings around it. Like, why are we upset? Why are we holding on to this? Are you afraid? You say you want a partner, but are we afraid of having that partner?

And really, it's almost like you have to do a little therapy too, because our belongings cushion us. You know what I mean? They make us feel safe. I think that's another thing. Stuff can make you think you are safe. And unearthing some of that stuff can make you feel vulnerable, but you will feel freer on the other side.

So going through that vulnerable stage of, oh, this is a little scary. I'm getting rid of all of these family furniture that was passed down for generations. But do you love it? Do you? Does it make you happy when you look at it in a room? Is it there out of obligation? A lot of it's going to be out of their obligation. I can't get rid of this because great-great-grandfather made this in the...

Okay. My mother had to move into assisted living a few years ago and we had her house and I just took a desk. Like I felt like I should take something. So I took a desk and put it in the house and I never really liked it. And I looked at it and I didn't like it, but I felt obligated. And then when I was moving, I'm like, this is going. I'm not taking this desk with me.

And I sent a picture to my brother and I was like, do you want this desk? It's been in our family for a really long time. And he said, “What side of the family?”

I said, “Our mother.”

And he said, “No, I don't.” And his words were, “I don't want that energy in the house.”

So that was really interesting because he's not really very intuitive, but he knew he didn't want that piece of furniture. And so I put it on Facebook Marketplace and this woman fell in love with it. She couldn't love it enough. And off it went to a beautiful new home.

And so if you don't love it, somebody else will love it. You know what I mean? You can always start with your relatives. That's where I started. Does it want to stay in the family? No, this piece of furniture did not want to stay in the family. And when I look around my house now, there's no place I would have put it. They wouldn't have made me happy anywhere.

Um, So I guess it's getting really in tune with what makes you happy too. Like when you walk into your house and you look at that furniture and you don't like it, like it's, it's not going to be a good energy. It's not going to support you.

Um, but I will say there is an uneasiness about it. I've worked with people who have a lot of clutter. So it's starting in the area of your life where you're stuck. You probably will be stuck someplace and then really allowing yourself to be a little vulnerable, have someone help you do it. You know, um, but like my friend who just did her mother-in-laws with the water everywhere, I mean, her mother, she said they had tax returns back to 1968 in that house.

Ellen:

Oh, my gosh.

Maura:

So, you know, she said as and she goes, my mother was financially having problems. So she's like, Mom, we have all these old taxes all around money. Let's start shredding this. You only need to keep five years. You know what I mean? And, you know, she said, Mom, you have 22 pairs of scissors. And they just kept going and going and going. But their relationship, as they do this together, their relationship is improving.

Ellen:

Oh, my goodness.

Maura:

As if they're clearing away the layers. You know what I mean? Clearing away the years and years of layers. And so, although I think it can be overwhelming, but you start small. I even tell people, you know, when you go get your mail, do not bring all the stuff into the house. Just, you know, don't bring it all in.

You're walking from the mailbox to your home or, you know, even if you are in an apartment building and you put a basket outside your front apartment door right inside and sort right there. Do not bring it in the house. Sort it. Put everything that you don't need, which is probably 95% of it, into the recycling basket and then deal with it once a week.

We bring so much in, you know what I mean? That's the problem. Then people, it's all over their counter is all the mail for like the last two weeks and half of it doesn't even belong in the house. And, you know, there's little things to start, you know, you can do is just don't bring it in. Don't bring stuff in.

You know, another trick I tell people who are consumers, and I can be, I'll admit, I've been a consumer. When you go to buy something, like Amazon is so easy. Whatever your shopping place is online, if you go online and put it in the cart, don't buy it. Put it in the cart and wait 24 to 48 hours. Go back. Do you still love it? Do you still want it? Do you still need it? Then make the decision.

And that was huge for me. That really slowed down any impulse buying.

Ellen:

I love that. That's something that I also practice when it's... When it's something that, when I call it, it seems like it would be a good idea, but it's still a little bit iffy, then I'll do that very thing. Just put it into the cart, and then I'll revisit it and see. And it always, it's either- it becomes more clear. It's no longer iffy. It's either a yes or a no.

Maura:

Exactly.

Ellen:

Yeah. I love that.

Maura:

Like, I love crystals, but how many do I need? Like, sometimes I'll be like, I'll put it in the cart, and then I'm like, Let's see if we really need that tomorrow. You probably don't need it. How many clear quartz do we really need? We can all have our things that we love, and that's okay. But there's a point where I say, do I need it? Do I want it?

And need and want to, you know, sometimes wanting is fine, and it does serve a purpose. But books are another thing. I love books, but I don't need them all. And I just really have become a lot more, since doing Feng Shui, a lot more intentional with how I purchase.

Maura:

And it helps people. Like it helps people to cut down on the clutter. And then look at what the reason is behind our impulse shopping. Because there's usually, it's usually a bomb. Just like our stuff. We feel safe. Or it soothes. Or it's, you know, an instant hit.

Ellen:

Yeah. That totally makes sense. And this is, oh gosh, this is so fascinating too. Because over the weekend... there was a water main break near me, and we were under a boil order for water. So the thing is, when I got noticed of the water main break, and the thing is, I live above where the break was.

So I immediately filled the bathtub with water, filled as many containers as I could with water. So I knew it was coming. I knew it was coming. And we ended up having the boil order in place until yesterday morning. Yeah. Okay, it was Wednesday morning. So from Saturday night to Wednesday.

Maura:

That's long. That's a very long time. That's a long boil-order time.

Ellen:

And the thing is, so what ended up happening is it was such an absolute pain in the butt to, like, properly wash dishes.

Maura:

Mm-hmm.

Ellen:

And because you couldn't use the dishwasher, you know?

Maura:

Right.

Ellen:

So... So it ended up that by Monday, I had to negotiate with myself because I'm a person who can't leave stuff in the sink. Like it drives me bonkers. But I had to negotiate with myself that, okay, we're going to, you know, use a little bit of a safe water just to start loosening out I need to not be driving myself nuts trying to do the dishes the right way. You know what I mean?

Maura:

Right.

Ellen:

But boy, let me tell you, when it came to yesterday morning, and it was confirmed that we could start using water regularly, the sense of relief of just being able to do the dishes and get them out of the sink.

Maura:

Well, it's true because just like clutter, dirt, food, anything like that, energy sticks. Energy is sticky and sticks to stuff. And you probably feel better when the dishes are clean and organized and put away. It just feels better. Everything flows better.

I always tell people, like, making your bed every day is a big thing in feng shui, too. Like, I mean, just because it sets the day and you don't have to just get out. I always tell people, it doesn't have to be, like, a ton of stuff on your bed, just a light comforter that you throw up and throw a couple pillows, but you'll feel better, you know. Energy will move smoother. It's just a good feeling.

But I feel the same way about dishes. And I think it has to do with energy, too. Like, it's dirty. I just want to get them clean and put away and organized.

Ellen:

Yeah. It does. It just feels almost like an intrusion, which is weird because they're, quote, unquote, just dishes.

Maura:

Exactly.They are just dishes.

Ellen:

Yeah. And they belong here. It's not like somebody brought their dishes over and put them in the sink. And at the same time, it was, yeah, fascinating. And the thing is, you know, I bring that up because it's that sort of thing, like that sort of everyday thing that I feel like can intrude. There's that word again. This is so weird that that's coming up. But anyway, I'll go with it. That can intrude on, call it our energetic peace.

Maura:

Yes, it can. It can. And I think for people who live in a lot of clutter or dirt, they're going to feel energetically lower just from that in their home. A lot of people say to me, it's so hard to start. And I'm like, I adopt this in my life. I adopt this in my business. Just do one small thing every day to move the needle forward. That's it.

Maura:

One small thing in my business could be a social media post that took me five minutes. That's all it takes. And so- What one thing, small thing can you do every day? Can you take that light to be donated? Can you sort the mail outside? Can you make your bed? Can you clean one shelf in your medicine cabinet?

I think when we think we have to do the whole thing at once, but we shut down. And I've adopted that my whole life, at least the last 20 years. It's like one small thing in your home and one small thing in your business. Or that's what I do to move the needle. And that's how I view it, moving the needle in a positive way.

Ellen:

I love that because, again, that just makes it feel so attainable.

Maura:

Because I hear the same thing over and over again. It's too much. And I'm like, of course it's too much. It's too much. A lot of people have 40 years of things in their homes. It is too much. But if it's one, you know, I love books. And when I moved, I realized I had a lot of books. And I was like, I really intentionally sat down. But if I had to go through all those books at one day, I was like, I would just do a shelf a day.

I just was like, okay, let me look at each book on this shelf. And if there were twelve books and four stayed and the rest got donated, they did. But if I thought I had to do the whole project, I would have kept putting it off. I was like, no, just one shelf a day. And you'll feel an energetic lift.

And you also feel, we all get that hit of like almost dopamine when we have a little project and a check mark next to it. Like, I did it. And I think that that's, you know, my best advice for people is do not look at the whole, you know, also people are like, well, I can't, if I don't clean the whole house, we can't feng shui the whole house.

Well, I always say feng shui, you can feng shui a desk. You can feng shui one room. I always say start with one room. We don't have to feng shui the whole house. We can get there and that will be a beautiful thing. But feng shui can have an impact if we just say, I'm going to feng shui my office because I work there and I spend the most time there during the day.

And then we're just, okay, good. We're only going to tackle your office and we're going to unclutter it. We're going to clean it. And then we're going to lay it out so that the energy is beneficial and your desk is in the right position and all of that. And you will profoundly feel better. And hopefully life will be good too.

Ellen:

Wow. Wow. Oh, I just, I love that so, so much because again, it feels like such a, It's a simple thing. And at the same time, I can feel the potential impact of that. And to know that it could make a difference for someone and make a difference for someone in terms of how they do their work and how they feel about going into their office every day. And yet also side by side with that, and I'm mentioning this because of what I'm being shown, which is dollar signs, it perhaps will also impact their abundance.

Maura:

Absolutely, because if we were just to feng shui an office, which you would just lay the bagua map on your office. So we're going to make your office have nine components. And if you were to walk into your office through your office door, the far left corner is your wealth gua.

So if you were to look at my wealth gua, which I'm staring at right now, it has a beautiful plant. It has a little money jar full of money and a buddha. Purple is the sign of wealth, so there's an amethyst crystal underneath the plant. And in my money jar, I have written out an intention for wealth as if it's already happened. And that sits in my money jar on top of my Buddha. And that's one, two, three, four little objects in that corner that look placed nicely. And when I look over there, I smile, and I'm activating wealth gua.

Ellen:

For heaven's sake. What a beautiful thing.

Maura:

Right. And then you can just do your office. You can do all nine guas in one room. And then people are like, oh, I can do that. I don't have to do the whole house. I'm like, no, we don't have to do the whole house. We can do your office where you spend the most time. We can just do your whole office and divide it into nine guas. You can have your fame, your career, your relationship, wealth, family, health, children, helpful people, career and knowledge and spirituality all in one room.

Ellen:

Whew!

Maura:

And that makes people more excited because they're like, I can do one room. And so here, if you do one room and you have an impact, something changes. Your life gets better. Opportunities start showing up. Dollars come rolling in. You've met a few friends that are coming in or your connection to your children is better or your spiritual is better.

Then you're like more excited to tackle the rest of the house. Because you've seen the benefits from just doing one room. For example, I did my fame gua, which I've never really paid attention to my fame gua that much. I was like, oh, yeah, this is, you know, whatever. But I started a new business. And so I did the whole fame gua. And I was asked to be in a matter of a month on three different podcasts. And it was like, wow, I was like, that's amazing.

And that was like, and that just came out. I mean, I was pretty new to this, you know, I just started this business in 2023. So I was like, and they were all some different people. And it was all and I was like, I was like, that's pretty cool.

And when I, my wealth gua, I did my Wealth Gwa and I have it done in my house and I have it done in my office. I was like, one day I had two Airbnb bookings. I had, I want, I got two checks from class action suits, zoom. It was just like one of those things. I was like, and I had just done it that day. And I was like, well, that was interesting, you know?

So, and it gets you excited. I mean, you know, like, oh, okay, this might be something behind this. So, but when the energy is flowing and I always say, I do a lot of videos, um, on Instagram and Facebook,

I first, you know, went through all the guas and then I went through components to them. But then I realized that I would say 50% of Feng Shui is intention as well. And how to set intention, how I set intention.

I mean, everyone can set intention differently, but that I really want people to think about, sure, you can put a purple amethyst crystal in your wealth gua… But what is wealth to you? Is wealth time? Is wealth money? What do you want?

So the wealth gua is also called abundance and prosperity. So what do you want an abundance of and what will it feel like physically in your body? Get into your body energetically. What does it feel like if you have an abundance of time as if it's already happened, or an abundance of money or whatever you're looking to be prosperous in?

And people are like, oh, that's what I'm supposed to do. I'm like, yes, act like it's already taken place. Act like the universe has delivered exactly what you want and write that out. Like feel that resonate in your body and write it out. And then put that someplace in that corner of the room.

Like I just said, mine's tucked into my money jar. And for me, wealth is time now. Wealth used to be money. Wealth, to me, abundance and prosperity is time. Because I can't buy it.

Ellen:

Right. My gosh. Oh, that is so cool. That is just so cool. Like my mind is swimming with just the potential of it all. You know, it's just remarkable. Absolutely remarkable. So then Maura, I mean, after all this, and if people are feeling it all like I'm feeling, we're going to be very excited to explore that potential. How can people find you to work with you?

Maura:

They can find me on the World Wide Web at www.windwaterandwisdom.com. Just as it sounds, .com. And I'm on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and YouTube as windwaterandwisdom.com as well. And I really try to put out content. I do a couple videos a week that are free. And then go back and look. I've gone through the Bagua maps. I've broken it all down.

I do one thing on biogeometry a week. And then recently, I went on a big motorcycle trip. So I did Mara's motorcycle musings and people loved them. I just talked about whatever was in my head about intuition or energy. And people are like, I feel that way too. I'm like, wow, okay.

So now I do one a week usually of Maura's musings. And how I'm doing them is I'm pulling a card. I'm just pulling a card and whatever the card is I talk about in my life. So I'm trying to help people learn about energy, figure out how to tap into their own energy. And so I just talk about what I've been doing. Like I'm nobody different than anybody else.

One day I was walking around and playing with cards and eventually by doing that over and over again, that's how I started to get in tune with it. So everyone's going to be different, but I just share my experience once a week on a personal level.

Ellen:

Wow, that is just so, so good. I just absolutely love it.

Maura:

Thank you. I'm having fun with it, Ellen.

Ellen:

I can tell. I can absolutely tell. I mean, I'm lit up.

Maura:

That's good. That's what I want to do. I want people to get excited. That's what my goal is, to get people excited about it.

Ellen:

I love that. I absolutely love that so much. Thank you.

Maura:

Thank you so much for having me talk about it. My YouTube channel just has my videos, so you can do that. If people want to do more, Facebook and Instagram will have some sort of content Monday through Friday. I take the weekends off. Monday through Friday I put content out every day. Something to work.

Ellen:

Excellent. And I will have links to your website and all of your socials in the notes for this podcast that people can access them with ease.

Maura:

Thank you, Ellen.

Ellen:

Well, oh, thank you, Maura. I'm just absolutely delighted with this conversation.

Maura:

Thank you.

Ellen:

I look forward to exploring this more because now I want you to feng shui my office. So you'll be hearing from me.

Maura:

That sounds good. And you know what I tell people as they go like this is when I have people, when I do an office or I do a house, I have them draw their floor plan just of your office or intuit. And so it actually reveals things about us. So I always say when you hand draw it, I'll get intuitive hits off of the hand drawn. Because how we see things is differently sometimes than how we perceive it is different.

Ellen:

Oh, that is fascinating. Okay. Oh, I like that.

Maura:

It's cool. I'll just quickly tell you, and I know we got to go. My teacher, when I was in real estate, when I was getting certified and I have a crazy busy schedule, I drew up my floor plan. I thought I did a great job and I turned it in and we had a call over it. And she's like, is your furniture in your house? And I'm like, what do you mean? No, it's not floating.

She's like, well, you drew your furniture all in the middle of rooms. Your bed is in the middle of the room. Your couch is in the middle of the living room. I'm like, oh, what does that mean? And she goes, are you grounded? And we go, oh, no, I'm not grounded. I work 90 hours a week. And she's like, so your furniture is reflecting your mental state. I'm like, oh, no.

Ellen:

Whoa. Whoa.

Maura:

So I just tell people that when I do a consult, I ask them to draw it because sometimes I can, my friend once drew her carport the size of her house. I'm like, do you want to be out of the house? Because it doesn't appear that your carport is like the same size as your house. Do you want to be in there? So it does show things about us that we don't even see. So I love looking at them.

Ellen:

Fascinating. Absolutely fascinating. Well, I look forward to working with you.

Maura:

Thank you.

Ellen:

Can't wait to find out what you reveal.

Maura:

Okay. Sounds good.

Ellen:

Well, thank you again, Maura, so much. This has been an absolute delight. And I so appreciate your time and your energy and your wit and your wisdom. And yeah, just run, people. Don't walk. Run. Yeah.

Oh, well you please take such good care.

Maura:

You too, Ellen.

Ellen:

Okay, thank you.

Maura:

You're welcome.

Ellen M Gregg (00:59:49.612):

Okay, bye-bye.
