Ten of Cups
My self-study of Tarot continues with the Ten of Cups. Or, as I just heard, “all is well.”
Joy; happiness; good fortune; good tidings, aka good news; “It’s a Wonderful Life”; “What a Wonderful World”; abundance in all its forms; serendipity.
Cups, rainbow, river, green grass, trees, house, family.
It’s the cup-bedecked rainbow that I keep coming back to. It could be a shared supernatural vision appearing to the couple, and yet it’s more likely a symbol of where they find themselves at this point in their lives. The rainbow all by itself is symbolic of magic and prosperity.
Gold, yellow, blue, pink, orange, red, brown, tan, black, gray, white.
It’s the lush green of the grass and trees that garner my focus. The landscape appears so rich and fertile because of it, which certainly speaks to the scene in its entirety. There’s also the connection with the heart chakra in play here, which feels important.
What the Guide Says About the Ten of Cups
“Appearance of Cups in a rainbow, it is contemplated in wonder and ecstasy by a man and woman below, evidently husband and wife. His right arm is about her, his left arm raised upward as she raises her right arm. The two children dancing near them have not observed the prodigy, but are happy after their own manner. There is a home scene beyond.
“Divinatory Meanings: Contentment, repose of the entire heart – the perfection of that state, if with several picture cards, a person who is taking charge of the Querent’s interests. Also, the town, village or country inhabited by the Querent.
Reversed: Repose of the false heart, indignation, violence.”
Well… If I don’t get caught up in the archaic nature of, and need for edited punctuation in, some of the description, I can agree with it, in general. Put a period in place of the comma after “perfection of that state,” and you’ll see what I mean.
“Repose of the entire heart” is a sweet phrase, when you consider the meaning of repose itself. And the “if with several picture cards, a person…” part could be helpful in a multi-card reading.
Meaning of repose: A state of rest, sleep, or tranquility. (Tranquility gets the thumbs-up here.)
