Three of Wands
My self-study of Tarot continues with the Three of Wands. Or, as I just heard, “reviewing the situation.”
Overlook; review; survey; take stock; enjoy the view; pause for breath; gratitude for what is; “For the beauty of the Earth”; considering the horizon; “What’s next?”
Wands, sprigs (leaves), land, sea, mountains (vista), ships (movement), sky, luxurious robe.
It’s the robe – the luxurious robe – that grasps my attention. I notice the green and feel heart chakra. I notice the red and feel root chakra. I notice the blue and feel throat chakra. I notice the patterned black and yellow and feel opulence.
And it’s the red that’s most prevalent, with its root chakra vibes which speak to security and abundance and groundedness. This person could be one who “has it all.”
Yellow, gold, brown, green, red, black, blue, white, gray.
The yellow could be overwhelming here, given its position as most-apparent color, and yet it isn’t overwhelming. It is, however, attention-grabbing, and for good reason.
Harkening back to our symbols and the chakras, the yellow takes up the torch and reflects upon the solar plexus chakra. That chakra is the seat of our personal power and our intuition.
For the purpose of this card, it could perhaps be said that the figure owns his personal power and uses his intuition wisely, to great effect.
What the Guide Says About the Three of Wands
“A calm, stately figure, with his back turned, looking from a cliff’s edge at ships passing over the sea. Three staves are planted in the ground and he leans slightly on one of them.
“Divinatory Meanings: He symbolizes established strength, enterprise, effort, trade, discovery, commerce; those are his ships, bearing his merchandise, which are sailing over the sea.
“Reversed: The end of troubles, suspension or end of adversity, disappointment, and toil.”
I’m in rare agreement with the meanings offered, while acknowledging there’s so much more to be gleaned. Well, depending on the client and their question, of course.
