1X. The Hermit
My self-study of Tarot continues with The Hermit. Or, as I just heard, “the one who knows to be silent.”
Humility; servitude; seeker; wanderer; guide; another’s solitude is this person’s “soulitude”; “I’m on the top of the world looking down on creation”*; old soul; tired soul.
Lantern, the star of David, mountain peaks.
The star within the lantern feels really important for this person. As much as it may assist this person and light the way, and assist other people by lighting the way, it’s also a reminder that there is light; there is a way.
Blue, gray, yellow, tan, white, black.
There’s something very ethereal about the color palate. All of it is muted; quiet; reverent.
What the Guide Says
“Prudence, also and especially treason, dissimulation, corruption, roguery. Reversed: Concealment, disguise, policy, fear, unreasoned caution.”
Prudence: the quality of being prudent; cautiousness.
Dissimulation: concealment of one’s thoughts, feelings, or character; pretense.
Roguery: conduct characteristic of a rogue, especially dishonesty or acts of playful mischief.
What Spirit Says
We see a wise man who is aged.
We see a person who is in need of solitude.
We see a person who is not needing company of other humans and understand he or she is never alone.
We see a person who is free of attachments to Earth.
We see a person who is all-seeing.
We see an old soul who is completing a cycle of contracts.
We see a person who is able to see into the future and able to offer guidance.
We see a person who has done much work toward their soul purpose.
We see a person who is unable to commit to a personal relationship with another.
We see a person who hides and wishes to be forgotten.
We see a person who wishes only to reason with themselves.
We see a person who is autistic or perhaps walking with psychosis of Aspergers.
We see a person who is in a coma.
We see a person with their soul in the sand.
(I’m loving that a range of reversed meanings was offered up.)
Desolate, weight of the world, eyes cast down rather than forward, unsteady (thus the walking stick), careworn.
This person is either consciously in a state of soulful solitude (“soulitude”) or consciously in a place of hiding from the soul.
Similarly, this person is either blessed with an acceptance of their ability to see the big picture, or burdened by it.
*Top of the World
For me, the energy of this card resonates most with Acceptance essential oil blend.
