King of Wands
My self-study of Tarot continues with the King of Wands. Or, as I just heard, “the man who makes it happen.”
Calm, purposeful, knowing, regal, in control, “full throttle,” focused, steady, direct, grounded, passionate, creative, powerful.
Crown, salamander or lizard, lion, throne, wand.
What stands out to me is the small lizard on the dais by the king’s throne. Its presence and the king’s awareness and acceptance of its presence speaks volumes to the ways of this man.
Red, orange, gold, green, brown, white, black.
I’m struck by the red, orange, gold and green in sum, because they immediately remind me of the root, sacral, solar plexus and heart chakras. That reminder is really important to the person this man is.
What the Guide Says
“The physical and emotional nature to which this card is attributed is dark, ardent, lithe, animated, impassioned, noble. He uplifts a flowering Wand and wears, like his three correspondences in the remaining suits, what is called a cap of maintenance beneath his crown. He connects with the symbol of the lion, which is emblazoned on the back of his throne. Divinatory Meanings: Dark man, friendly, countryman, generally married, honest and conscientious. Reversed: Good, but severe; austere, yet tolerant.”
Well… The “dark man” thing doesn’t wash with me, especially if it’s a reference to a person of color. Same for the “generally married” part. The rest of it, though, resonates.
