Three of Swords
My self-study of Tarot continues with the Three of Swords. Or, as I just heard, "ouch."
Wounded, hurt, cut to the quick, heartache, heart pain (physiological), stabbed in the heart, "engaging in a war of hearts."
Heart, swords, clouds, rain. The rain is what strikes me in this image. It feels cold and harsh - almost like sleet - and then it feels warm and desperate. I taste the salt of tears formed of sadness and grief, or perhaps anger.
White, silver, blue, gray, red, black. It's the lackluster gray that pervades this image for me, which makes sense given the overall tone of the card. There's a dull quality to the gray; a dullness that can certainly be the result of an overage of heartache.
What the Guide Says About the Three of Swords
"Three swords piercing a heart, cloud and rain behind."Divinatory Meanings: Removal, absence, delay, division, rupture, dispersion, and all that the design signifies naturally. Reversed: Mental alienation, error, loss, distraction, disorder, confusion."Dispersion: the action or process of distributing things or people over a wide area.I'm so surprised that neither heartache nor grief were mentioned within the guide's description. Then again, it would be reasonable to assume that those qualities would fall within "all that the design signifies naturally," I suppose.Mental alienation is an interesting suggestion in the Reversed section.
