Ten of Pentacles: Taking On Tarot Self-Study
Ten of Pentacles
My self-study of Tarot continues with the Ten of Pentacles. Or, as I just heard, "We are family."
Rich; vibrant; enjoying all of life's pleasures; greetings; welcome; kindness; compassion; playful; community; family; goodwill.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMVe_HcyP9Y
Pentacles, dogs, child, elder, couple, castle, tower, archway, trees, sailboats. The elder in his fine coat stands out. He appears to be observing - and perhaps preserving - all that is before him and around him. He feels like the patriarch of this family.
Gold, gray, black, white, blue, tan, brown, pink, garnet, red, green, beige. It's the garnet of the woman's robe that catches my eyes. It seems to accentuate the richness of the scene. Is she pregnant behind that strategically-placed pentacle?
What the Guide Says About the Ten of Pentacles
"A man and woman beneath an archway which gives entrance to a house and domain."Divinatory Meanings: Gain, riches, family matters, archives, extraction, the abode of a family. Reversed: Chance, fatality, loss, robbery, games of hazard; sometimes gift, dowry, pension."First, it seems strange there's no mention of the elder in the foreground within the card description. Aside from the arch, he's the most prominent piece in the imagery. Second, I'm not sure where "games of hazard" comes from - unless, perhaps, it's a nod to gambling away the family fortune.
