Two of Wands: Taking On Tarot

Two of Wands

My self-study of Tarot continues with the Two of Wands. Or, as I just heard, "the surveyor."Taking on Tarot: Two of Wands ~ A self-study of the Universal Waite Tarot deck, published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc.

First Impressions

Contemplation; weighing options; taking stock; surveying the kingdom; "counting blessings"; "purple-mountained majesty"; master of the universe.

Symbols

Wands, sprigs (leaves), globe, roses, lilies, cross, mountains, sea, lush valley, open sky. It's the globe that takes center stage on this card for me - at least, in this moment. While it obviously represents Earth, its representation could be expanded to encompass the solar system, or even the universe. That globe holds a passel of implications for this figure.

Colors

Red, white, brown, burnt umber, green, purple, white, gray, pale blue, burnt orange. It's the red of the hat and the rose and the roof of the white house that stand out. I hear "Earthly possessions." That fits the vibe I'm getting from this card. And that vibe fits the sensibilities of the root chakra, which is in part about security as it relates to abundance and prosperity.

What the Guide Says About the Two of Wands

"A tall man looks from a battlemented roof over sea and shore. He holds a globe in his right hand and a staff in his left rests on the battlement, another fixed in its ring. The Rose and Cross and Lily should also be noticed on the left side."Divinatory Meanings: Between the alternative readings there is no marriage possible, on the one hand, riches, fortune, magnificence. And on the other, physical suffering, disease, chagrin, sadness, mortification."The design gives one suggestion - here is a lord overlooking his dominion and alternately contemplating a globe. It looks like the malady, the mortification, the sadness of Alexander amidst the grandeur of this world's wealth."Reversed: Surprise, wonder, enchantment, emotion, trouble, fear."Oh, my. Well... "riches, fortune, magnificence" work for me. And "a lord overlooking his dominion and alternately contemplating a globe" works for me. The rest: not so much.
