Four of Wands: Taking On Tarot

Four of Wands

My self-study of Tarot continues with the Four of Wands. Or, as I just heard, "make merry."Taking On Tarot: Four of Wands ~ A self-study of the Universal Waite Tarot deck, published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc.What an ideal card for the first week of May. Who knew? Also, May the 4th be with you. ;-) On to our study.

First Impressions

"Oh joy, unbounded"; "Oh joy! Oh, rapture!"; "Let the sun shine!"; abundance; correlation with the solar plexus chakra; celebration; harvest; ceremony; ritual.

Wands, sprigs (leaves; on top, almost exclusively), garland of flowers and fruit, castle. It's the garland of flowers and fruit that draws me into this card as I study it today. There's such a fullness and richness to it; such a presence to it.It's nearly tangible in the way it stands out to me. I can almost smell the flowers; almost taste the fruit. Richness and wholeness and vibrant life exude from that garland.

Yellow, gold, red, white, green, purple, pink, blue, russet, brown. For all the yellow is the dominant color on this card, it's the red of the turret roofs and the ribbons that stand out to me. And that makes total sense, given that red is associated with the root chakra and the root chakra is associated with security and abundance.

What the Guide Says About the Four of Wands

"From the four staves planted in the foreground there is a great garland suspended, two female figures uplift nosegays and at their side is a bridge over a moat, leading to an old manorial house. Divinatory Meanings: They are for once almost on the surface - country life, repose, concord, harmony, prosperity, peace, and the perfected work of these. Reversed: The meaning remains unaltered - increase, felicity, beauty, embellishment."Those divinatory meanings... "They are for once" in alignment with the intuitive and channeled information rising from the card's imagery.
