Knight of Swords: Taking On Tarot Self-Study

Knight of Swords

My self-study of Tarot continues with the Knight of Swords. Or, as I just heard, "headstrong."Knight of Swords: Taking On Tarot, a self-study of the Universal Waite Tarot deck created by Stuart P. Kaplan, drawings by Pamela Colman Smith, recolored by Mary Hanson-Roberts, published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc.

First Impressions

Knight of Swords: Taking On Tarot, a self-study of the Universal Waite Tarot deck created by Stuart P. Kaplan, drawings by Pamela Colman Smith, recolored by Mary Hanson-Roberts, published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc.Impetuous; jumps in without thinking a situation through; brave yet foolish; overthinking or underthinking before making decisions; rash; tilts at windmills.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpXNniqJml0

Symbols

Sword, jagged clouds, steed, orange cape, sand dunes, birds, wing on armor at knee, flower on helmet. It's the action of the steed that catches my attention. It appears the horse is racing headlong - albeit hoof-first - into whatever fray the knight has his sight set on. While the horse isn't given much of a choice, the knight is, and yet it might seem the horse's lack of choice is akin to the knight's lack of thoughtful choice.

Colors

Gray, white, blue, silver, red, orange, yellow, tan, green, black, brown. That orange cape is everything, for me, because of its association with the passion-driven sacral chakra. The knight's passion is admirable and yet could prove costly.

What the Guide Says About the Knight of Swords

"In full course, as if scattering his enemies."Divinatory Meanings: Skill, bravery, capacity, defense, address, enmity, wrath, war, destruction, opposition, resistance, ruin. Reversed: Imprudence, incapacity, extravagance."Enmity: the state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something.Yup. I can see most of this in play here.

What We Say About the Knight of Swords

Correlation with bravery in spite of all indications suggesting a withholding or retreat would be wise.Oracle of a nature which portends a great battle.Correlation with youth who is yet unable to frame a decision with experience.

Other Impressions

Bravado.Impulsive, as with some personality disorders whose symptoms include no impulse control.Idealistic.Han Solo. :-) In particular, I see the scene in "A New Hope" when he's partially disguised as a stormtrooper and turns on a large group of troopers, yelling and whooping and chasing them.

 I Might Ask a Client...

"What rash decision have you recently made or are prepared to make?""How might it benefit you to seek guidance or permit yourself more contemplation before moving forward?"What comes up for you around this card?
