Eight of Cups

Eight of Cups ~ Taking On Tarot self-study with the Universal Waite Tarot deck, created by Stuart P. Kaplan, drawings by Pamela Colman Smith, recolored by Mary Hanson-Roberts, published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc.My self-study of Tarot continues with the Eight of Cups. Or, as I just heard, "leavetaking."Eight of Cups ~ Universal Waite Tarot created by Stuart P. First Impressions

Leaving it all behind; "It's the Climb"; walk away; starting over; all that glitters is not gold; follow the light.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG2zyeVRcbs

Symbols

Cups, river, mountains, moon, sky. It's the all-seeing, all-knowing moon that stands out for me here. Her ebbing and flowing feminine energy stands both as sentinel and illuminator for the journeyer.

Colors

Gold, green, red, blue, brown, tan, gray, black. It's the midnight blue of the sky with its hint of starfields that captures my attention. It's equally mysterious and comforting, and its endless quality speaks of limitless opportunity.

What the Guide Says About the Eight of Cups

"A man of dejected aspect is deserting the cups of his felicity, enterprise, undertaking or previous concern."Divinatory Meanings: The card speaks for itself on the surface, but other readings are entirely antithetical - giving joy, mildness, timidity, honor, modesty."Reversed: Great joy, happiness, feasting."Some of this makes sense to me, although even with a reversal I feel I'd be hard-pressed to glean "great joy, happiness, feasting." I like the mention of timidity and modesty, as they add another possible layer to the implications of walking away.
