Counting My Blessings

"When I'm worried and I can't sleep,I count my blessings instead of sheep, and I fall asleep counting my blessings."

I've stated that I make a point not to worry.  There are times, however, when I can't sleep - in spite of the self-Reiki which makes a good night's rest a near guarantee. On the rare occasions when that happens, I use a tool I've developed that is nearly 100% effective in sending me off to Hushabye Mountain:I count my blessings.Blessings are different for everyone; they could include house, car, a great job, solid bank accounts, etc.My blessings are people, and I enumerate my blessings although not by literal counting. Instead, I bless them with my love.I start by blessing myself (I'm important, too!), and then I ripple out geographically, "visiting" each home and blessing ("I love you") each person there, ever expanding.Since I have friends and relatives as far away as Florida and California, it gets to be a big ripple! However, I rarely get that far. Usually by the time I've rippled out those blessings to my Dad in New York and my cousins in Pennsylvania, I'm asleep; sometimes sooner. This remedy reminds me of how I was taught to pray when I was a little girl: "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. God bless Mommy and Daddy..."The list then - especially family-wise - was a lot shorter. I'd be done in a few minutes. Not anymore. If we were to have a whole-family gathering (uncles, aunts and cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren), we'd easily approach a gross of us.So, next time "you're worried and you can't sleep, just count your blessings instead of sheep, and you'll fall asleep counting your blessings."
