Christmas Eve 2020

Silent. Holy. Calm. Bright. Those adjectives from the first couple lines of “Silent Night” sum up my personal intent for Christmas eve. Of course, the whole day won’t be silent; far from it.

There will be music and laughter. It’s possible there’ll be mild cursing while wrapping odd-sized gifts. (It’s been known to happen on occasion.)

I fully intend to sip eggnog and admire the bright Christmas tree and ceramic village with my sock-clad feet resting on a comfortable hassock.

Most likely, I’ll watch White Christmas or another classic movie. And then, I’ll resume the playing of music - traditional, calm, holy - and open the cards I’ve accumulated over the past several weeks.

That’s how I’ll finish my day, before climbing into bed for a “long Winter’s nap.”

May you find pockets of silent, holy, calm and bright today, if that’s your wish.

Blessed be.
