Another New Year's Eve

This is one of the posts recovered after a botched website move in 2013. It was originally written and published on December 31, 2012.

Looking Back at 2012

I know I experienced it. I know I lived it. It feels, though, as if I welcomed it just a few seconds ago, blinked, and was transported to the precipice of 2013. 12 months, 52 weeks, 364 days (with the 365th ticking away) - all gone. There were so many changes, not the least of which was my move at the end of June, halfway through the turbulent twelve.I still consider the move temporary, even with six months having gone by in the interim; from the lush green of Summer, to Autumn's red-gold crispness, and now into Winter's sleepy white. What will come with Spring's promise, I wonder?

Looking Ahead at 2013

The year will start off, as it always does, with a New Year's Day party. It's the last hurrah of the holiday season (save for brunch with my Ya-Yas this coming Sunday).I treasure the traditions that surround it (Yankee Swap, made-from-scratch eggnog, games, Death by Chocolate), and the people who populate it.After that, it will be full steam ahead. I've been busy setting goals, and schedules for those goals, the past couple days.I've also been busy organizing, cleaning, renovating and purging. I feel the need to clean and clear so that I may properly welcome the fledgling New Year, and make way for its shiny newness.Do you have that clean/clear/organize/purge compulsion, too?

Looking Around at Right Now

Here it is: New Year's Eve, 2012. Christmas is being put to bed, I'm getting together with a few friends this afternoon, and I'm getting together with a few other friends tonight.I will also spend some time in quiet reflection, as I sometimes like to do on this particular day. I plan to briefly reflect on what was, but then I will shift the bulk of my reflection to what is, because that's all I (we) have, and I'm exceedingly grateful for it.As always happens with me, anticipation and excitement are building up to the dropping of the ball in Times Square, the raising of champagne glasses, and the glad calls of:Cheers to you, cheers to me, and cheers to 2013 bringing many blessings to us all.
